Betty Jane Pelfery of Wayne
Betty Jane Pelfrey, 75, of Wayne, W.Va., went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 9, 2011. She was born January 10, 1935 in Boyd County, Ky., a daughter of the late Clarence and Laura Belle Pierce. Her son, Harold Lee “Bug” Pelfrey also preceded her in death, along with two sisters, Louise Barker, and Pauline Ross; two sisters-in-law, Hazel Pierce and Eunice Pelfrey Tomblin; son-in-law, Lyle Edward “Mickey” James, and two daughters, Alberta Lewis and Samantha Fields. Betty was a member of the Laurel Freewill Baptist Church for 62 years, where she taught Sunday school. She leaves behind her husband of 59 years, Harold Lee Pelfrey; one son, Bill Pelfrey and his wife Dianna of Wayne; one daughter, Barbara James of Huntington, W.Va.; four grandchildren, Laura Aliff of East Lynn, W.Va., Candy Pelfrey, Morgan Smith, both of Wayne, and Billie Castle of Prichard, W.Va.; 11 great grandchildren, Clifford Workman of Huntington, Janie Workman of East Lynn, Alexis Robertson, Billy Robertson, Kylie Smith, Colt Jaxson Smith, Kori Smith, all of Wayne, Macy Castle, Austin Castle, Gabriel Castle, and Zoey Castle, all of Prichard; five step-grandchildren, Rebecca McComas, Shelly Braley, Jessica Eplin, Michelle McFee, and Rhonda Hicks. Also surviving are two sisters, Brenda Ross and her husband Arden of East Lynn, and Bonnie Stiltner of Genoa, W.Va.; two brothers, Donald Pierce of East Lynn, and Herman E. Pierce and his wife Phyllis of Huntington; several nieces and nephews, and friends too numerous to mention. Betty also leaves behind her friend Betty Fenton who went above and beyond to care for her and came to be a part of the family, and the staff of CB&H whom Betty loved as sons. The family would like to thank the staff of Hospice of Huntington for their love and support. Funeral will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday, January 14, 2011 at Johnson Tiller Funeral Home with Pastor Jerry Casteel and Minister Sam Adkins officiating. Burial will follow in Community Memorial Gardens. Friends may call after 6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
