Dana Monroe Sanders

Dana Monroe Sanders, 55, died January 25, 2011 at OSU Medical Center after a long battle with cancer. Born March 23, 1955 to Hubert Davis of Huntington, W.Va., and Phyllis Johnson and step-father Doyle Johnson of Oceana, W.Va., he was raised by the late Levi and Verla Sanders, in Wayne County, West Virginia. One brother, Willie Sanders of Branchland, W.Va., also preceded him in death, along with half-siblings Brenda Johnson of Oceana, W.Va., Clarence Davis of Hamlin, W.Va., and William Nute McDonald of Branchland.
Dana resided in Hurricane, W.Va., with his wife Kathryn Sanders and was the owner of Mountaineer Roofing and Construction Company. He was an avid pool player and a member of BCA Pool League and Valley National 8-ball League Association.
In addition to his wife, survivors include children Jeffrey Sanders of Kopperston, W.Va., Dana DeShannon Sanders of Hurricane, W.Va., Jessica Sanders Crouse (Matthew) of Branchland, and Shanda Bragg of St. Albans, W.Va.; step-children Larain Pike, Neil Bauman, and Kyle Bauman, all of Hurricane; siblings Katie Mills, Lois Lambert, Harold Sanders, all of East Lynn, W.Va., Golden Sanders of Akron, Ohio, and Jack Sanders of Hamlin; half-siblings, Drema Carey of South Point, Ohio, Diane Kershner of Stephenson, W.Va., Tammy Lozier of Bolt, W.Va., Gary Davis of Cleveland, Ohio, and Jr. Davis of Branchland; seven precious grandchildren; extended family; and many special friends.
Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday, January 29, 2011 at Johnson Tiller Funeral Home, Wayne, with Rev. James Walker and Jason McComas officiating. Burial will follow in the Sanders Cemetery, East Lynn. Relatives and friends are welcome after 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
