Bert Blair of Huntington

Bert Blair 94, of Huntington, WV went to be with the Lord on January 23, 2011 at his home surrounded by his loving family and his faithful companion, his dog, Chili. He was born February 15, 1916 on Greasy Creek near Pikeville, KY, a son of the late Benjamin Harrison Blair and Sarah Adkins Blair. Bert was a very talented man and retired from the Veterans Administration Hospital after 25 years of service, where he worked as a technician of nuclear medicine. He was a distinguished veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps seeing action in WWII. Members of American Legion Post #93 Kenova will conduct military graveside rites. He was a member of the Upper Gragston Baptist Church. Bert was a very experienced TV and radio technician. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Norma Hite Blair, his second wife, Janice Spencer Blair; six sisters, Frankie Christian, Elma Christian, Verta Hatten, Cynthia Burris, Australia Maynard and Bennie V. Lycans; three brothers, Arlen Blair, Alex Blair and B. H. Blair. He is survived by his son, Benjamin Alex Blair and his wife, Adele of Renton, WA; his daughter, Susan Blair Riggs and her husband, Mike of Rupert, WV; 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren and a host of caring neighbors and friends. The family would like to express thanks to his special niece and caregiver, Linda Honaker; the V.A. Medical Center; Home Based Primary Care workers and Hospice of Huntington. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Rev. Bernie Workman officiating. Burial will follow in the Blair Family Cemetery.
