Obie Perry of Huntington

Beloved Dad and Grand-Dad, OBIE PERRY, 95, of Huntington, WV, passed away quietly, following a brief illness, Wednesday, February 2, 2011, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, Huntington, WV. Born April 6, 1915, at the Rocky Fjord/McComas area of Dunlow, Wayne County, WV, he was a son of the late James and Marinda (Nelson) Perry. Preceded, in 1997, by his loving wife of 59 years, Tennessee (Copley) Perry and 2 Sons: Jimmie and Trestyn Joseph Perry. He was a member of the Little Harts Freewill Baptist Church, Harts, WV; a retired timberman/sawmill operator; heavy equipment operator; and reknowned molasses maker in Lincoln and Wayne Counties. Preceded also by 6 brothers: Elvia; Elisha; John Walter; Oscar; Wetzel; and Noah; and 6 Sisters: Alma; Clersie; Florida (Perry) Pilbeam; Bessie (Perry) Frazier; Maude (Perry) Fry Comer; and Jennie (Perry) Bevins. Survivors include his daughters: Kay Wall, Marlinton, WV, and Della Lilly, Huntington, WV; Grand-Daughters: Patricia; Alice; and Darla; and Grand-Son, Obie; a sister, Emily (Jack) Hagist, Lavalette, WV; 4 brothers: Edgar, Sr., (Jane), Dunlow, WV; Wayne (Della), Hamden, OH; Raymond (Barbara), Lavalette, WV; Monroe, Cleveland, OH; Robert Franklin “Bob”, Cleveland, OH; Great-Grand-Daughters: Rebecca; Maria; Amber; and Christina; Great-Grand-Son: C. J.; Great-Great-Grand-Daughters: Adriana; Emily; and Harley; Great-Great Grandson: Owen; Five special nephews: Winfield and Lafe, both of Cleveland, OH; Charles, Chesapeake, OH; Dudley, Lavalette, WV; David, Louisa, KY; Wetzel, Dunlow, WV; and Edgar, Jr., Dunlow, WV; a special niece: Willa Schooley, Lexington, KY; two special Great-Great-Nephews: Brian and “Josh”; a special Great-Great-Niece: “Ellie”; a special sister-in-law: Dorothy Bentley, Chesapeake, OH; and special friends: Joe Bruder and Pat Davis, Hamlin, WV; Nancy Floyd, Wurtland, KY; Wendell Napier, Prichard, WV; and George Carter, Huntington, WV. The family extends sincere appreciation to Dr. Gilberto Garza, the nursing staff at St. Mary’s Medical Center, and the entire staff at Emogene Dolin Hospice House for the loving care they provided to our Dad. Pallbearers will be Joe Bruder; Wendell Napier; David Perry; Edgar Perry, Jr.; Troy Perry; Wetzel Pilbeam; Dudley Ralston; and Frank Schooley. Visitation will begin at 6 PM Friday, February 4, 2011, at Johnson-Tiller Funeral Home, Wayne, WV. Funeral services, with Pastor Moses Vance and Rev. Clifford Vance officiating, will be 1:00 PM Saturday, February 5, 2011, at Johnson-Tiller Funeral Home Chapel, Wayne, WV. He will be laid to rest at Queen’s Ridge Cemetery, Dunlow, WV.
