Larry Newton Blankenship

Larry Newton Blankenship, 74, went home to be with the Lord on March 5, 2013 at St. Mary’s Hospital. His loving family was there with him as he entered the portals of Heaven. Larry was born February 27, 1939 to Burl and Lucy Dean Blankenship. He was predeceased by his father, mother and sisters, Loretta Merle Blankenship, Evelyn Toney and Jacqueline “Hilda” Waggoner. Larry and Dottie accepted Jesus Christ as their Savior on March 13, 1960 at Bethesda Missionary Baptist Church. Bro Leo Gibson baptized them on March 20, 1960. He married Dottie Lou Tabor on March 26, 1960 in Wayne County, WV. He is survived by his loving wife, Dottie, two daughters who loved him very much, Kimberly (Randy) Trautwein and two daughters who loved him very much, Kimberly (Randy) Trautwein and Beverly (John) Nidy, and grandchildren who loved their precious Papaw, Heather Lee Brown, Michelle Dawn (Donnie) Davis, John Wesley (Caidin) Trautwein, Jason Robert Trautwein and Kevin Richard Trautwein. He had one precious great grandson, Bryson William Davis. He is also survived by sisters, Elenor (Andrew) Fry, Sally Ann (Sherman) Moore and Karen Blankenship; sisters-in-laws, Bernice (Joe) Maynard, Betty (David) Varney, Judy Adkins; aunts Maxine Hall and Kathleen Boothe, uncle John Blankenship and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Larry worked at the Herald Dispatch for 37 years. He was blessed by preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ to people and seeing them come to Christ. Larry’s first church was Haynie’s Branch Baptist. He also was the pastor at Bethesda Missionary Baptist and Big Hurricane Missionary Baptist before he retired. He loved people and they in turn loved him. His family and friends will always remember him but rejoice in knowing they will meet him again. Visitation was Thursday, March 7, 2013 from 6-9 p.m. at Morris Funeral Home. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 8, 2013 at Morris Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Tony Perry officiating. Burial followed in the Jones Cemetery, East Lynn, WV.
