June Ruth Lane Burks of Wayne
June Ruth Lane Burks, 79, of Wayne , W.Va. , passed away Saturday, March 12, 2011 in St. Francis Hospital , Charleston , W.Va. , after a brief illness. Abiding with her wishes, a private graveside service was conducted at the Williamson Cemetery , Cabwaylingo , W.Va. The song “Go Rest High on That Mountain” by Vince Gill was played just before laying her to rest.June was born December 25, 1931 in Welch, W.Va. , a daughter of the late Joseph and Hazel Noe Lane . She was preceded in death by a son Larry Burks; two sisters, Pauline Seagraves, and Margaret Ray; long time friend of over 50 years, Clarence “Skillet” Smith; and her dog Rascal. Survivors include a son, Darrel Burks of Honaker , Va. ; a sister, Ann (Morris) Paco of Spencer, W.Va., with whom she made her home in the last four months of her life; a brother, Joseph (Letha) Lane of Las Vegas, Nev.; three granddaughters and five great grandsons: Tina (Michael) Morgan and her four sons, Michael, Trae, Matthew, and Jaden; Tiffany Burks and her son Tyler; and Pam Burks. Also her neighbors (who thought of her as a mother and grandmother) Tommy, Tammy Smith and their children, Chris and Alicia; and many nieces and nephews. June lived and worked many years in Michigan . She was the head of housekeeping for the President of the University of Michigan. She moved to Wayne County and resided in East Lynn working in the grocery industry. In 1995 she moved to the left fork of Wilson Creek were she held many roles in the neighborhood including caregiver, messenger, cook, babysitter, gardener, and friend. She will be severely missed. The family would like to thank the Williamson family for the beautiful grave plot on top of the mountain. Also they would like to thank Johnson Tiller Funeral Home for their service and kindness.
