Beatrice Opal (Bea) Smith of Genoa

Beatrice Opal (Bea) Smith of Genoa, WV and formerly of Zanesville, OH and Punta Gorda, FL departed this life on April 28, 2011 at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House in Huntington, WV. She was born February 16, 1929 in Kenova, WV to the late John and Emily (Riggs) Hager. She attended Ceredo-Kenova High School in Kenova, WV and a local business school. Bea and her late husband, Marv Smith, owned and operated Zane Mobile Homes & Park in Zanesville, OH for many years before retiring to Florida. Bea enjoyed bowling and was an avid competitor in Kenova, WV and Zanesville, OH. Many years ago Bea greatly enjoyed her involvement with the Kenova Women’s Club. Bea’s other love was for sewing. Many of the grandchildren were recipients of beautiful bed coverings and wall hangings. She also made the very best costumes for kids; granddaughter Sarah says one she received was the “most awesome and best” Rainbow Bright costume in the whole world. On November 16, 1967 Bea married Marvin E. Smith and enjoyed 41 years of marriage, working and traveling life’s journey together. Husband Marv preceded her in death on August 9, 2008. In addition to her parents and two brothers, John and Bob Hager, Bea was preceded in death by her dearest friend, Lahoma Crouch. Life was lonely for Bea after the death of her friend and husband, Marv. Bea is survived by her sister, Nell Hatfield of Marion, OH and six children; Debbi (Steve) Deedrick of Coshocton, OH; Robyn (Len) Picha of Huntington, WV; and Greg Arthur of Warner-Robins, GA; Terry (Jackie) Smith of Wilmington, DE, Ronald (Cecile) Smith of Columbus, OH and Steve Smith of Florida. Across the years, 15 grand-children and 12 great grand-children have lovingly called her ‘Nana Bea’. Bea attended the Hopewell Methodist Chapel at Joel’s Branch, claiming Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. Brief memorial services will be held at Johnson-Tiller Funeral Home in Wayne, WV on Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at 11:00AM. Burial will follow the services at the Rome, OH Cemetery. Calling hours will be observed prior to services beginning at 9:30AM. Donations in Bea’s name may be made to the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House of Huntington, WV or the charity of choice. The family of Bea Smith would like to thank all of the staff at Heartland of Riverview for the care they have provided to her over the past 2 years.
