Helen Elizabeth Britt Stansberry of Ashland
Helen Elizabeth Britt Stansberry, 89, of Ashland, Ky. died peacefully in her sleep Friday morning at Community Hospice Care Center. She was born November 21, 1922 at Salt Petre, WV, a daughter of the late Charles and Mae Seites Britt.From the late 1950’s into the 80’s Helen worked as a bookkeeper at Jay R. Miller & Sons, a bookkeeper and deputy sheriff under Sheriff Charlie Lemaster in Louisa and finally retired from the Louisa Mill Supply. After retirement, she pursued her passion to make handmade quilts and crochet afghans. She was a member of the Louisa Freewill Baptist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star in Louisa for over 60 years. In the spring and summer you would always find her watching baseball, especially the Cincinnatti Reds, or looking after her rose bushes. Her latest passion was cooking for her buddy “Stormie” the family’s German Sherpherd. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Jack D. Stansberry, a stillborn son Infant Stansberry, and a son Tommy D. Stansberry. She was also preceded in death by three sisters; Stella Martin, Ruby Britt, and Joanne Chapman, Huntington, W.Va., and five brothers; Jack Britt and Nathan Britt, Ft. Gay, W.Va., George W. Britt and Jimmy Britt of Huntington and Robert Britt, Millersburg, Ohio. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Sharon and (Don) Payne, Ashland, Ky; one sister, Bessie Crabtree, Edgewater, FL, three sisters-in-law; Donna Brittand Betty Jean Britt, Huntington, W.V, and Gail (Hubert) Taylor of Nicholasville, Ky., and one brother-in-law, Bobby (Julie) Stansberry, Lexington, Ky. She was blessed with six grandchildren, Angie (Steve) Clevenger and Amy Johnson, Ashland, Ky., Sheila (Bill) Diamond, Louisa, Ky., Tammy Lovely, Milford, OH, and Tommy (Wanda) Stansberry of Savannah, GA, and one step-grandson, Dr. Lonnie Payne, Louisville, Ky. She had eight great-great grandchildren. Two special great grandsons who watched over her daily, Jamie and Nicholas Clevenger, Ashland, Ky., Amanda (Robert) Fouts and Cody Diamond, Louisa, Ky., Mikie (Nickie) Lovely, Corrinth, Ky., and Savannah Stansberry, Savannah, GA. Many nieces, nephews and friends in Kentucky, West Virginia, and Ohio. She leaves behind her buddies and best friends “Stormie” Clevenger and “Daisy” Johnson. She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends. Visitation will be at 12:00 P.m. Sunday, May 6, 2012 with the funeral to follow at 2:00 p.m. at Young Funeral Chapel in Louisa, Ky. Music will be by Jimmy Stevens and words of comfort by pastor Richard Maynard. Burial will be at Pine Hill Cemetery under the direction of Young Funeral Home. Casket bearers will be Jamie Clevenger, Steve Clevenger, Chuck Britt, Mike Britt, Billy Britt and Cody Diamond.
