Lorena Salyer White Ball of Louisa
Lorena Salyer White Ball, 87, of Louisa, entered into eternal rest June 14, 2011 after a long illness. Lorena was born May 19, 1924 in Johnson County Ky., the fifth of nine children born to the late Irvin and Zelda (Murray) Salyer. She was a homemaker, avid quilter, gardener and expert seamstress working at the Louisa Sewing Factory until its closing and later worked at J.J. Jordan Geriatric Center while training to be a CNA. After graduating from high school Lorena joined the war effort by traveling to Michigan to work as a riveter in a B-24 Bomber Plane Factory. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Lorena was preceded in death by a son, Wayne “Red” White, husbands Clifton White and Clyde Ball, two brothers, Bertell Salyers and Cornell Salyers, one sister, Okedell Clancy. Survivors include four children: Zelda, Sergeant of Flatwoods, Larry (Cathie) White of Ashland, Mary (Larry) Mosley of Blaine, Gary (Rosie) White of Fallsburg; nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. Surviving siblings: Chad Salyer of PA, Willard (Ann) Salyer of Ohio, Odessa Glover of PA, Florence Shinkle of OH and Galena Phillips of OH. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday at Young Funeral Home Chapel with burial at the Ball Cemetery in Adams, KY.
