Clarence Delbert Spencer of Fort Gay
Rev. Clarence Delbert Spencer, 78, of Fort Gay, WV, passed away Thursday, June 9, 2011 at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington, WV. Funeral services were conducted at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, June 12, 2011 at the Myers Funeral Home in Elkview, WV. Burial followed at the Spencer Family Cemetery at Elkview. He was born February 16, 1933 at Frame, WV, a son of the late Roy and Icie Myrtle Hively Spencer. Clarence taught for 54 years of service as a vocational agriculture teacher and a substitute teacher for Wayne County Schools. He was the former pastor of Hopewell United Methodist Church and currently taught Sunday school at the Wayne United Methodist Church where he was a member. A brother, Elbert Lee Spencer and a sister, Helen Grace Spencer also preceded him in death. Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, Janice Carole Armstead Spencer; three daughters, Joyce Marie Matney and husband, Steve of Proctorville, OH, Freda Cyrus of Fort Gay, WV, and Karen Grace Maynard and husband, James of Louisa, KY; two sons, Carlos Spencer of Cocoa Beach, FL and Dale Spencer of Fort Gay, WV; a brother, Roy Spencer, Jr. of Gallipolis, OH; three grandchildren, James Kenneth Maynard, II, Bryan Edmond Maynard, and Christina Marie Cyrus and a host of additional family and friends. Friends called from 6-9 p.m. Saturday at Morris Funeral Home, Wayne, WV, and two hours prior to services on Sunday at Myers Funeral Home at Elkview, WV.
