George Donald Asbury of Huntington
George Donald Asbury, 84 of Huntington, WV died Saturday, December 10, 2011. Funeral services celebrating his life was at 2:00 p. m. on Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at Morris Funeral Home Chapel, Wayne, WV with Pastors Fred Ferguson and Paul Ray Farley officiating. Burial followed at the Asbury Cemetery at East Lynn, WV. George was born March 21, 1927 in East Lynn, WV. He was the proud owner of Asbury’s supermarket and Town and Country Furniture for 53 years. He took pride in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved for them to visit and play in the back yard. He was the twelfth of fourteen children of the late Moses and Minnie Asbury. He was also preceded in death by an infant son, George Donald Asbury, Jr.; siblings Lucian, Elmer, Claude, Hoover, Woodrow, Tom, Barney, Bill, Hartley, Hoover, and Pinky Asbury, Sally Griffin, and Nannie Crabtree. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Eileen “Peach” Asbury; sister, Victoria Vaughan; daughters Roberta Asbury Brumfield (Danny)and Lisa Asbury Ross (Jamie); one son, Darrell Asbury (Sharon); seven grandchildren, Tara Perdue, Eric Asbury, Christy Ross, Angie Nalls, Ashley Snider, Melinda Brumfield, and Kimberly Brumfield; 11 great-grandchildren, Eric Curtis Asbury, Tyler Asbury, Bradlee Matzdorff, Devon Matzdorff, Kassidy Nalls, Jadyn Dillon, Jordyn Snider, Carter Snider, Jason Perdue, Addison Perdue, and Izaiah Brumfield and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends including a special friend, Fred Ferguson. George will be greatly missed by his family and the many friends he made through his years of store keeping throughout Wayne County. Remember George would always say, “Merry Christmas”, regardless of the season.
