Floyd Blankenship of Wayne

Floyd Blankenship, 85, of Wayne, WV, passed away Monday, December 5, 2011 at his residence. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 8, 2011 at Morris Funeral Home Chapel, Wayne, WV, by Elder Jimmy Lester and Bishop Isaac Markham. Burial will follow at the Blankenship Cemetery at Wayne. He was born September 6, 1926 at Wayne, WV, a son of the late F. M. “Doc” and Chaney Spurlock Blankenship. Floyd was a retired pipeline worker for C. J. Hughes Construction Co. and was a driller for Mills Drilling Company. Floyd was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II. Military graveside rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 93 of Kenova, of which he was a member. He was also preceded in death by his wife’s parents, Ellia and Bryan Bradshaw, a son, Douglas Blankenship, a grandson, Alex Blankenship and seven siblings. Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Helen Ruth Bradshaw Blankenship; three daughters, Wanzella McCloud(Roy), Elizabeth Ann Markham (Isaac), and Deborah Stevens (Harold), all of Wayne, WV; four sons, Bryan Blankenship (Della), Dwight Blankenship (Iris), Richard Blankenship, and Dennis Blankenship (Tammy), all of Wayne; five sisters, Martha Perry, Rebecca Casteel, Lavon Johnson, Dorothy Napier, and Geneva Wiloby; four brothers, Albert, Ed, Toliver and Roy Blankenship; 25 grandchildren, 31, great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Morris Funeral Home. His grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
