John Richard “Poppy” Jordan of Dunlow

John Richard “Poppy” Jordan, 89, of Dunlow, W.Va., went to be with the Lord on Friday, December 9, 2011. He was born April 27, 1922 in Wayne County, a son of the late Sidney and Mary Elizabeth (Robinson) Jordan. His wife of 47 years, Eunice Maynard Jordan also preceded him in death along with two infant children, Genevia and Roger; two brothers, Golden Jordan and Everette Jordan; and infant sister, Eva Jordan. John was a retired coal miner and an 18 year member of the Macedonia Baptist Church. He is survived by his three children, Larry Jordan and his wife Edna, Mary Lou Maynard and her husband Buck, all of Dunlow, and Lindsey Jordan who lived with and took care of “Poppy”; his grandchildren, Peggy Fletcher and husband John of Genoa, W.Va., Richard Maynard and Anne Smith of Genoa, Hannah Jordan of Columbus, Ohio, Larry Jordan of Dunlow, Michael Jordan of Montgomery, W.Va., James Jordan of Columbus, Jason Jordan of Montgomery, Johnathan Jordan of Columbus, Raymond Abbott and wife Shelly of Wayne, Nathaniel Jordan and girlfriend Beth Smith, and Kevin Jordan, all of Wayne; 16 great grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren. Also surviving is one loving brother, James Jordan and his wife Catherine of Wayne; and a host of friends, family, and brothers and sisters in Christ. The family would like to thank the Mingo-Wayne nurses and the staff at Three Rivers Medical Center for their care and support. “He’s only gone away with a friend” Funeral services were conducted 11 a.m. Monday, December 12, 2011 at Ferguson Branch House of Prayer, Dunlow with Pastor Lemuel Little officiating. Burial followed in the Sam Damron Cemetery.
