Thomasine Adkins Johnson formerly of Kenova

Thomasine Adkins Johnson, 88 of Rocky Mount, N.C., formerly of Kenova went to be with the Lord on Dec. 25, 2012, at Spring Arbor Assisted Living. Tommie was born Nov. 2, 1925, Wayne County a daughter of the late Boyd F Adkins and Euna G Adkins. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, George B. “Jug” Johnson; two grandsons, John Collin Heatherly and Jason David Heatherly; a brother, Jack Adkins; and three sisters, Eloise Staley, Helen Ronk and Billie Bellomy. She was a graduate of Buffalo High School and worked many years at Armstrong Industries and the Wayne County Courthouse before retiring. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa Johnson Heatherly (John) of Commerce, Texas, and Jane Johnson Phipps (Ed) of Martinsburg W.Va.; granddaughters, Sarah Ann Heatherly Fielden and her husband James of Commerce, Texas, Teresa Marie Phipps and Jody Ellen Phipps, both of Chicago, Ill., and Kelley Heatherly Hemingway and her husband Lloyd of Greenville, Texas; great-grandchildren, Austin David and Katelyn Mae Heatherly, both of Greenville, Texas; a brother, James T. Adkins of Kenova; a sister-in-law, Joetta Johnson Wilson of Pensacola, Fla.; and a host of nieces and nephews. Tommie was a member of Kenova United Methodist Church but had attended First United Methodist Church of Rocky Mount, N.C., for the past 18 years. The family would like to thank the staff at Spring Arbor Assisted Living in Rocky Mount and United Hospice of Rocky Mount, N.C., for all of their caring and support these past two years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the C-K Little League, P.O. Box 283, Ceredo, WV 25507, in her memory. Jug and Tommie enjoyed years of service with the youth of Ceredo-Kenova. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at Kenova United Methodist Church. Services will begin at 1 p.m. immediately following the visitation with Rev. Scott Byard and Rev. Jim Richards officiating. Burial will follow in Riggs Cemetery, Prichard. Rollins Funeral Home is assisting the family.
